Doctor Who Pinball is a pinball released by Bally in September 1992, based on the television series of the same name. The idea behind the game is that the Doctor’s first six incarnations have somehow become trapped and are in need of rescue by the Seventh Doctor, who must defeat the villain, Davros. The essential gameplay of Doctor Who Pinball revolves around completing a mode on behalf of each Doctor, with each mode having a different set of rules in effect in different areas of the playfield. Players must collect each incarnation of the Doctor during the course of the game. Players decide at the beginning of a round of play which of the Doctors they want to rescue, then aim shots at the particular area of the playing field assigned to that incarnation. When players do what is required to rescue that incarnation, they must aim at a particular area to achieve “video mode”. Because of the changing sets of rules, Doctor Who Pinball is regarded as far more complex than the average pinball machine.
